What is Homoeopathy?

Homoeopathy is a holistic treatment that uses highly dilute substances to stimulate the body's potential to heal; whereas conventional medicines work by suppressing symptoms.  Homoeopathy is a gentle and effective treatment that has no side effects.

The Homoeopath can give a medicine which begins the process of healing by continuing to stimulate the body's immune system along the same pattern that the body has chosen.  This means the medicine is selected on the basis of similarity.  This is the fundamental Homoeopathic principle of

"like cures like"

SAMUEL HAHNEMANN

Samuel Hahnemann, a German Doctor, discovered Homoeopathy over 200 years ago.  He became disillusioned with the conventional medicine of his time and the toxic side effects it produced.

Through research he discovered the natural healing powers in plants, minerals, and animal substances (eg snake venom).  When these substances were highly diluted their powers became more potent.

What does a homoeopathic consultation involve?

A homoeopathic consultation with Christine Sloan usually lasts for one hour to obtain all the relevant details that make up the total symptom picture. Questions may be asked of the patient's lifestyle, environment (what is important to them as a person); their reaction to temperature; weather conditions, what kind of food affects them, sleep patterns etc; how intense their symptoms are and how it affects their everyday life.

When the homoeopath - Christine Sloan - has enough information to provide the patient's symptom picture, a remedy can be selected.

Taking the remedy

The 'remedy' (the name for a homoeopathic medicine) comes mainly in small sugar pills that are pleasant to take.

The pill should be dissolved slowly on the tongue.

It is preferable not to eat or drink for 15-20 minutes before and after taking the remedy.

Aggravation

A well indicated remedy gives a positive response and the patient will find their symptoms beginning to ease soon after; or within a couple of days, depending on the patient's response.

If your symptoms intensify this will only last a short time.  You may find, as well as your initial complaint, other symptoms  easing or beginning to lessen considerably. Other minor ailments may also have been alleviated or might even disappear.

What does Homoeopathy Treat?

The Homoeopath selects 'remedies' from 3000+ homoeopathic medicines which are used to treat people of all ages.

  • I have found homoeopathy really useful in puberty, pregnancy, childbirth, and menopause
  • Homoeopathy has been used worldwide successfully in first aid: wounds, burns, injuries, broken bones, insects bites etc.
  • In acute conditions of limited duration such as coughs, colds, sore throats tonsillitis, earache, mumps, measles, hay fever, allergies etc.  and with rest and the correct diet it may shorten the duration of the illness and protect against further complications
  • For everyday problems: stress, tiredness, unable to sleep, cystitis, constipation, loss of appetite, weight gain, stomach problems etc.
  • Chronic conditions that are a block to your health can be discussed as to the way forward towards better health.

Avoid taking strong mints, coffee or tobacco.  Substances such as perfume or highly scented deodorants can sometimes antidote remedies.

After taking the remedy patients have stated that emotionally, within themselves, they feel better.

The homoeopathic remedy works on different levels of disease: both acute and chronic symptoms can be treated effectively and rapidly.  When the patient's health improves there is a shift in their energy; the homoeopath will then retake their case to select a remedy that fits their new set of circumstances.

Homoeopathic remedies can be used alongside allopathic medicine in some circumstances; eg when patients find side-effects of their medication too debilitating.  If you are in this position it would be wise to consult with your doctor first.

Chronic conditions (eg depression, anxiety migraines, IBS, eczema, psoriasis, asthma and many more) respond well to deep-acting homoeopathic treatment.

Homoeopathy aims at achieving the most desirable balance of health for each individual constitution.
